PITT COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS

The Master Gardener Volunteers meet once a month to learn more about gardening and find out what upcoming opportunities are available to share their knowledge and talents with others.  Last month, they took a few minutes of the program to recognize members who recently received their certification, earned 5 and 10 year pins, and 500 and 1000 volunteer hours pins.  Applause!  Applause!

All the others
Yes, not necessarily a pretty site.  However, come back to this blog (or visit the Arboretum) in a month or so to see the first blooms.   You're sure to be impressed by what we've got growing.

ARBORETUM WORK DAY

Danny Lauderdale and the Master Gardeners spent a recent morning (between rain, snow, ice, and cold weather) doing some late winter chores in the Arboretum gardens.  Pruning shrubs and grape vines, cutting back perennials, weeding, and turning compost kept them busy.  Of course, they always have time to smile for the camera!

Don't forget to sign up for the 'Starting a Vegetable Garden' class to be held next Wednesday, March 12 from 10:00 AM to Noon.  Meet in the Pitt County Extension Office, but be prepared to go outside for hands-on demonstrations.  The class is free, but you need to call 902-1709 to register.

If you can't get to the class, this publication may help you get started with a spring garden: PLANTING GUIDE
