BLOOMING WILDFLOWERS

The Wildflower Garden is a field of sunshine this time of year.  You will see blooms in all shades of yellow, orange, and red.  While the overall look of this garden is carefree, it is not (nor has it ever been) maintenance free.  It is a four season garden, though.  Each season and sometimes week to week it has new blooms, fading blooms, or interesting seed heads.  Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other birds find it very attractive too!  Click this link to find out how to create your own wildflower garden:

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Master Gardener Kathy P. received this beautiful thank you from the RHA Howell Center's children. Kathy recently visited the center for special needs children to talk about gardening.  The children planted seeds of marigold, thyme, and basil.  They already have started a vegetable garden with tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce.

If you would like a Master Gardener come to talk to your group, call 902-1709 and we will match your interest to one of them.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING US!

The weather was made to order. The early bird Friends of the Arboretum shoppers started forming the line at 8:00 AM for the 9:00 AM opening. We are so appreciative of the over 400 people who came to shop.  Boxes and carts were rapidly filled and by noon only a few plants were left.  The Pitt County Master Gardeners worked for months to get all of the plants looking great and ready to sell.  Remember: Same time next year- the Saturday after Mother's Day.  You may want to consider becoming a Friend and being able to shop early for the best selections.
